Stewards of Harmony

One of the most pressing questions I keep asking myself is; what is humanity’s role to play on this planet? We have the intelligence to study ecosystems and see how they are composed of animals, plant life, insects, fungi and all sorts of organisms that have a particular function. All of these functions act as a web of relationships that are interdependent and interconnected. To put it simply, everything needs everything. Each individual organism relies on the ecosystem that it is a part of to survive and thrive. We can shrink down and look at a single body and see how there are cells and organs and systems that all work in concert to produce the whole of a functioning body. Which is a micro version of an ecosystem. These systems of interconnected harmony go in both directions, from an atom to a universe. It is fractalized wholeness. This is known as a holarchy; when a whole is also one part of a greater whole and so forth.

What has separated humanity from all other species is that we have a capacity to have a sort of dominance over nature. We build cities, canals, and bridges. We cut down forests, and overfish the seas. We have the ability to nuke the planet 100 times over. There is a huge gap between an apex predator and humanity.

If you look at what any given organism does to fulfill its job in nature, it seeks pleasure and avoids pain. This will lead it to personal and collective success. This is an internal guiding mechanism that leads all creatures to play their role. A key issue with humanity is that we have transcended our natural environment by creating a world where if we seek pleasure and avoid pain it leads to a life of meaninglessness, addiction, depression, destruction, and a long list of imbalance. If we have been able to create a world that transcends nature then we ourselves must be able to transcend the basic survival impulses of seeking pleasure and avoiding pain. We must mature into a being that doesn’t succumb to the lower angels of our nature.

So there is a lot to say about this split from nature that our species has taken. We are literally toddlers with nuclear weapons. The point I want to make is about how we have created such sophisticated technology that is currently primarily being used to harm the biosphere, to disrupt the balance of ecosystems, and separate us further from nature. My thought is that as far as we go one way is as far as we can go in the other. So there must be a way for humanity to steer technology in a manner that increases the harmony of living systems instead of disrupting them. To be lords of balance instead of imbalance. Could this be what our potential role is to play on this planet? Could this be nature’s intention for the human race?

If you ask me, the planet herself is an evolving being. We are merely cells upon a larger organism. My sense is that we are being invited to undergo a species wide initiation into a greater organism. Whatever the next name is after homo-sapien. I believe we are about to graduate from our current species and become a higher one. This new species I believe is meant to be stewards of harmony. To undergo a leap in consciousness where we acquire the collective prudence and love to use our technology for the good of the planet.

It is time to stop acting as parasites or as a cancer to our planet. I believe there are enough people on Earth right now that feel this on a deep soul level. A destiny of going through a wonderful metamorphosis that requires a fundamental shift in consciousness. We are called to take care of our brothers and sisters, which are not only other humans but every living creature on this planet. Not only do we share a home but we share a large portion of our DNA.

I suppose we will find out if we have what it takes to become the species our planet needs us to be. It is an honor to be in a position to help facilitate this great turning.
