Simple Gratitude

Too often we as humans are only grateful for something after we have lost it. Think of those videos where someone sees or hears for the first time, it is a moment of great beauty for someone to experience sight after not having access to it. It is very touching to witness something like that. But for the rest of us the experience of seeing has become…well… regular old seeing.. nothing special. I say we should strive to experience sight the same as that person who sees for the first time does. This is one thing wisdom traditions of old have wanted people to realize on an embodied level, that ordinary experience is inherently magnificent and radiant. The ability to recognize the wonder and beauty of simply experiencing. This is the gift of life, simply to be alive. It also correlates to the central lesson in the Pixar movie “Soul.” May we learn to live with greater and greater awareness of this gift we have all been given so that we may have the natural response, which is to give back.
